My Summer

During July I volunteered at summer day camps with young kids and in August I went to Florida for 3 weeks. The one week that I volunteered at the Humane Society camp, I think it was connected to helping with the issue of cruelty to animals. Throughout the week we taught the kids behaviour of different animals, how to approach them, and that they don't need to be afraid. At the end of the week I felt that we helped them gain the knowledge that animals are a privilege and not to be taken for granted. When I went to Florida I think that an issue I contributed to was the economy because when I went out I didn't have to worry about money the same way some people who lived there did. I think that I didn't help matters necessarily because I was spending money on things when the people working there either got minimum wage or less and the money did not go to help the people in need.

  1. Sarah, i also traveled to France where their has been economic downfall. It was hard to see many people sitting on the side of the street begging for money. The economic downfall has been affecting many countries in Europe. Italy and Greece have been suffering bad drops in their economy, this is what caused such bad downfall in the economy in France. Also this summer i notice many cats running wild in France looking hungry and sick, people would just walk by like they were nothing. It is hard to see animal cruelty happening around the world. I'm happy to see how my you care. Good job on your blog. :)

  2. Sarah I agree with you on your thoughts about cruelty to animals. This summer I adopted two kittens from the SPCA and found myself in an awkward position not bringing home all the animals in that building. It was upsetting to see all the animals that I knew had been abused. I think animal abuse also comes from much of the anger that society carries. Any suggestions as to how animal abuse could be helped? In my opinion, awareness is the way to go.

  3. Sarah - I think that it is great that you spent your summer so productively, yes bad stuff happens all the time and it is great that you spent your summer trying to change that :)

  4. Sarah, I think it was really thoughtful of you to volunteer your time this summer. It is important to raise awareness especially for other animals in this world that cannot voice there opinion! I also think it is crucial to show your awareness to the younger members of our generation since we are somewhat role models to them as well! Animal cruelty can correlate with other issues our society faces too, such as poverty and violence so I believe helping this issue is a good stepping stone for helping other issues too.

  5. Sarah, i think that you did a great thing by helping others know about cruelty to animals. I think that you did a great job by informing younger students about this situation as they wouldnt really know what is going on. It is really good that you spend your summer in such a productive manner.

What a great way to spend your summer. I think animal cruelty is an issue that constantly gets pushed to the side when it shouldn't be. We often think of ourselves as being superior to them and forget that, though in many way we do have the upper hand, they have rights too. TThat is why it is so importan to educate people so good for you!
