Gender Inequality

Gender Inequality has been a prominent global issue in the world for centuries. In the last century this issue has been more addressed and more women are standing up for their rights. In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) Article 1 it stats that: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." Not only is it addressed in that one article but equal rights is mentioned in various parts of the UDHR. This is issue has been acknowledged globally because it is now third on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

It is clear that with the advancement in today's society that it is only right for both men and women to be equal. It has been proven that women are just as valuable in the workplace as men are. There are certain jobs and roles that are better suited for women and vice versa for men. With developing countries some of them are stuck in their traditional ways where the women stay home to take care of the children and tend to the chores. What needs to be realized is that women are a valuable asset to a community, without them society could basically collapse. Women are a valuable resource for a village because of their instincts and their abilities. I think that with women starting to realize they want to do more in their lives they are starting to fight for their rights. This attitude and passion s really needed in the developing countries because this is where we are seeing the majority of inequality. The government must be their focal point because they are so corrupt and stuck in their ways that this is stopping women in thesse countries from evolving. Polticians must be modernized and interested in the change to help. Men in these nations must also be willing to help because with the support of the other gender it will show that the change is necessary and desired.

  1. Yes women are a valuable resource to society!! GO GIRLS! But on a serious note, women empowerment and gender equality is crucial to development in our world, especially under developed and developing countries. I completely agree with you that women need to begin to fight for their rights, and agreement between the men in society as well as the government is extremely important. In my opinion, society will function best as a whole once gender equality is achieved.

  2. It has been proven again and again that even though men are built differently than women and are there for suited better for some jobs and vice versa, as you said, women are still capable of doing anything a man can do (and in heels.. joking! kinda.) It is okay that women take care of the children as long as they aren't being limited to it. there are women in our society that prefer just being a stay at home mom not because they aren;t capable of doing more but because that is what they have chosen to do. That is okay. But it is wrong to limit a women to doing chores and taking care of the children. Another problem is that most women believe that there is no other way. They lack empowerment. If we gave them that then I think there would be no stopping them.

  3. You are right that women are a valuable resource to our society. Especially in developing world, it puts great danger for the girls. If they have an education they can go to school get an income, and when they are at school they are safe. Also in our world today the main cause for gender inequality is also stereotypes, we are vulnerable, we aren't strong enough. It's all false, and now jokes are being passed like girls should be in the kitchen, this will have a huge negative effect on the next generations.

  4. Both men and women are needed to make up a healthy society. But as many women are being mal-treated particularly in developing countries, we need to address this situation as drastically as we would in our communities in Canada. If the U.N has enforce laws regarding this we really need to warn other countries that they can not abuse this right.

  5. Women and men are both as equally capabele to complete any task given. Any society that shuns women, shuns 50% of the productive work force. And with 50% population not in the work force, how can a country ever expect to develop any time soon? Women need to look out for each other and stand up for themselves in order to be heard.
